Carnival Celebrations

It is called the greatest show on earth and year after year it lives up to its name.  In early February, the island explodes into the world’s biggest party stages in preparation for the thousands of visitors who jam-packed the shores to participate in the island’s carnival season, which takes place just before the Lenten season. Carnival has been reproduced in many of the other islands and as far away as New York, Miami, Toronto. London and other Caribbean islands but everyone knows Trinidad is the mother of all Carnivals which attract visitors from all over the world. Carnival dates back to the 18th century with the emancipation of slavery and has since grown into an enormous spectacle of creativity, costume design, evolving into one of international stature and the most significant event of Trinidad and Tobago, Tourism  The carnival celebrations of pre-band launching, carnival fetes and carnival competitions for Kings, Queens, Calypso, and Soca rivalry takes place all before the grand finale on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. The masqueraders parade the streets in costumes accompanied by music trucks and steelpans to various competition sites. Visitors call it the greatest street parade in the world and one that rivals any other in the world.
