Downtown Bridgetown – A TOURIST IN THE CARIBBEAN

Downtown Bridgetown

Bridgetown is the capital city and the largest city on the island. With a population of over 110,000 people and the center of its Business and Culture affairs, it is home to the Bridgetown Port, one of the most flourishing ports in the Caribbean. It is also home to the Parliament Building, St Nicholas Abbey – one of the oldest Rum Distillery in the Caribbean, The Chamberlain Bridge – a swing bridge – and a beautiful boardwalk running along a river packed with pleasure crafts (sailboats, catamarans, yachts, boats) and waterfront cafes which gives a panoramic view of the city’s Parliament Square. As the island liveliest city, Bridgetown is full of restaurants, shopping malls, ritzy boutiques and more but for visitors, the heart of the city is the Careenage with its multi-million dollar yachts, luxury liners, and old warehouses that are now waterfront cafes, restaurants, and cocktail bars. There’s plenty of shopping and nightlife on the island as the town offers plenty of duty-free shopping with upscale boutiques and a bevy of excellent shops and stores.
