Fort Amsterdam – A TOURIST IN THE CARIBBEAN

Fort Amsterdam

Fort Amsterdam is the oldest historical fortification site in the Dutch Caribbean and is one of the Heritage strategic locations, built by the Dutch to protect Green Bay from predators and unwanted visitors. Although today the Fort has a different purpose for the island, a few historic cannons remain.  The area is a beautiful nature walk around the beautiful resort grounds and nesting ground to the island’s pelicans. A lot of the Fort was damaged by the recent hurricane but many structures survive together with many primitive weapons. From the top, there are still breathtaking views of both Green Bay and Little Bay. Great view of the cruise ship port in Phillipsburg.
