Harrison Cave – A TOURIST IN THE CARIBBEAN

Harrison Cave

Harrison’s Cave is a major tourist attraction in Barbados. The caves were around since 1795 but were only discovered around the 1970s.  They were developed by the government and open to the public for viewing in 1981. The caves are formed naturally by water erosion through limestone rocks. The calcium-rich water that runs through the caves forms the unusual stalactites and stalagmites formations. With it’s crystalized limestone appearance the cave is distinguished by the deep pools of transparent water flowing through streams and towering columns. Visitors can experience this underground oasis by one of the many tours offered on the island.
