Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge – A TOURIST IN THE CARIBBEAN

Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge

A World Natural Heritage Monument, the Queen Emma Bridge is a floating pedestrian bridge, which was built in 1888, and is considered one of the world’s most iconic bridges. Also called ‘The Swinging Old Lady’ the bridge connects the east side of Punda to the west side Otrabonda in the city of Willemstad. The bridge was built to accommodate mega ocean-going cruise ships, large tankers and cargo containers that pass through the Bay. Today, the Swinging Old Lady is one of Curacao’s most prominent and historical landmarks and a favorite with tourists and cruise ship passengers. Passengers can also enjoy tropical food and drinks at the waterfront sidewalk cafes or just stop by, to watch the beauty and operation of the iconic bridge.  The beautiful arches on the bridge when lit up at night are amazing. Great photo opportunities with breathtaking views. Be sure to watch the fireworks on a Thursday night.
