Out of the ground ouses black gold, known as the  La Brea Pitch Lake located in La Brea, in the southern part of the country is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world and known to many as the 8th wonder of the world.  The lake is a major supplier of asphalt to the international market. The lake is estimated to contain over 10 million tons of asphalt and covers about one hundred acres and about two hundred and fifty feet deep. The asphalt has been used by many major construction sites throughout the world including the roadway in front of Buckingham Palace, La Guardia Airport in New York, the Lincoln Tunnel and various other roadways in several parts of the world. The La Brea pitch lake is considered a popular tourist attraction and attracts over twenty thousand visitors annually.
